Bachmann visits churches, talks about God

WAUKEE, Iowa, July 3 (UPI) -- Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman running for the GOP nomination for president, told an Iowa church congregation Sunday God will bring "a new day."

Bachmann's 21-minute speech at an evangelical Christian church in Waukee, Iowa, focused on God, rather than politics, The Des Moines Register reported. The stop was on her presidential campaign trail, which kicked off Saturday.

Praising the worshipers for being at the service that morning, Bachmann said "I think it is for us to remember, that if we do as Chronicles tells us ... and ask an almighty God to come and protect us and fight the battle for us, we know from his word, his promise is sure. He will come. He will heal our land. And we will have a new day."

She also touched on her personal history, the Register said, including a mention of a miscarriage she and her husband went through during her third pregnancy, saying "I'd never known anyone who'd had a miscarriage. And it was a profound experience for both of us. It changed us."

Other events for Sunday on the tour included giving two speeches at another church, followed by events at the Pizza Ranch in Carroll, and the Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor & Museum in Le Mars.
