WASHINGTON, July 1 (UPI) -- Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman amassed $4.1 million for his campaign, including a large chunk from his own wallet, an aide said.

While a campaign official wouldn't say how much the former Utah governor contributed to his bid, he said it was "less than half" of the total, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

Huntsman announced his bid June 21.

His campaign set a target of raising $200,000 online by the end of the second quarter, and it was about $20,000 away from meeting that goal Thursday night, the Post reported.

Huntsman and other Republican candidates have been crisscrossing the country on fundraising missions. Huntsman, who was President Obama's ambassador to China, has conducted fundraisers in South Carolina, California, Michigan, Texas, Florida and New York.
