HARVEY, Ill., June 30 (UPI) -- An Illinois woman has been charged with killing her infant son and carrying his body for hours while she went shopping, authorities said.

Toyrianna Smith, 20, allegedly beat and suffocated her 3-month-old son at a friend's home last week when the baby wouldn't stop crying, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Smith, of Harvey south of Chicago, then allegedly put the dead infant in a baby carrier and took him with her while she went shopping the next day before going to a neighbor's house, WLS-TV, Chicago, reported.

The neighbor, who suspected the baby was not breathing and saw blood on the blanket, called 911.

The baby was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead by doctors, who estimated he had been dead for eight to 14 hours.

Smith has been charged with first-degree murder and a Cook County judge ordered her held on $1 million bond, WMAQ-TV, Chicago, reported.
