NEW YORK, June 28 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., has talked with Democratic leaders about possible candidates for his old seat, party leaders said.

Weiner resigned several days after admitting he had inappropriate online relationships with several women and sent bawdy pictures to his online friends.

One Democratic insider confirmed to the New York Post that Weiner had spoken to the Queens party chairman and several potential candidates about whom the Democrats should pick to fill his old seat, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

"He's held the seat," the insider said. "He knows the district better than anyone else. He's interested in a Democrat keeping the seat. I'm pretty sure he's spoken to everybody."

Democratic and Republican leaders in Queens are responsible for selecting candidates for a special election Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to call in the fall.

Politicians said they expect the congressional seat to be eliminated once new district lines are drawn to fit population figures from the 2010 Census.
