Obama talks about his history with Iowa

BETTENDORF, Iowa, June 28 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama, without mentioning the 2012 presidential elections, Tuesday allowed how Iowa has seen a lot of political stumping recently.

"You know, I know you've been seeing a lot of politicians around lately," Obama said during a speech at the Alcoa Inc. Davenport Works Factory in Bettendorf. "Something tells me that you may see a few more before February is over."

Republican presidential hopeful Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., was in the Hawkeye state Monday. Sarah Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee who hasn't revealed her 2012 plans yet, was in the state the same day as Obama.

And while he didn't directly speak of the importance Iowa has in the primary season or his key win when he ran for president nearly four years ago, Obama did note, "Iowa, you and I, we go a long way back."

"So we've got some history together," Obama said. "And together we're going to make some more history for years to come."
