HOUSTON, June 28 (UPI) -- A Houston man hit a pedestrian and drove 3 miles early Tuesday with the man dying in his passenger seat, police allege.

The victim, a 32-year-old man whose name was not released, was struck after his sport utility vehicle, a Ford Explorer, broke down on the Gulf Freeway. Police said the man was trying to cross the southbound lanes on foot at 12:30 a.m. when Onak, driving a black Mazda, hit him.

The man's body hit the windshield and broke the glass, landing on the seat beside Onak, police said. Onak allegedly got off the freeway and was on a side street when a Harris County constable noticed the damage to his car and then the victim inside.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
