NASHVILLE, June 28 (UPI) -- A Tennessee woman has been charged with offering to drop a domestic assault complaint against Titans receiver Damian Williams for $5,000.

Shelley Anne David, 22, of Antioch, was arrested Monday in a Nashville parking lot, The Tennessean reported. Police said she gave Williams a written statement dropping her complaint after he gave her a cashier's check.

David was charged with attempted extortion and was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

She told police in Antioch June 4 that Williams assaulted her during an argument at his apartment the previous night. While she said she was unsure about filing a formal complaint, one was filed on her behalf in line with department policy.

Don Aaron, a Metro police spokesman, said the assault case was closed after police talked to witnesses and because of problems with David's credibility.

Williams, who played for the University of Southern California, was a third-round draft pick last year. During his rookie season with the Titans, he played in all 16 regular-season games and caught 16 passes.
