The Restore Our Future political action committee, led by several former Romney aides, is the latest in a list of groups formed to take advantage of court rulings allowing corporations, unions and tycoons to spend millions on elections without restrictions, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
Restore Our Future PAC could be the first super PAC formed specifically to back a GOP presidential contender, analysts said. The group will butt heads with Priorities USA Action, a similar super PAC led by former White House aides supporting President Obama. However, Restore Our Future could be used to attack other Republicans in the party's primary season, those familiar with the operation said.
"This is an independent effort focused on getting Romney elected president," said Charles Spies, the super PAC's treasurer who was Romney's general counsel in his 2008 White House bid. "We will do that by focusing on jobs and his ability to fix the economy."
