WASHINGTON, June 20 (UPI) -- Disgraced New York Rep. Anthony Weiner Monday formally submitted his resignation to the U.S. House.

An aide to Weiner, whose fall stemmed from a number of lewd pictures he sent to young women on Twitter, told The Hill the letter "is expected to be laid down on the House floor tomorrow (Tuesday). It is not possible to lay down the letter today (Monday)."

Weiner announced late last week he intended to resign in the wake of the scandal.
