Dozens injured as band bus crashes in Iowa

MINDEN, Iowa, June 6 (UPI) -- Police say dozens of people were injured when a bus transporting high school students to a national band competition crashed near Minden, Iowa.

Thirty-nine patients were taken to four Omaha area hospitals and two medical helicopters were also dispatched Monday morning to the scene of the rollover crash, KETV, Omaha, Neb., reported.

None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker said.

The driver suffered the most serious injuries in the rollover crash, Danker said, and was pinned in the bus.

The motor coach was from Casper, Wyo., on its way to the band competition in Indiana with students from around the country and some German exchange students, Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Bryan Michelsen said.

Investigators said they believe a tire blew on the bus, causing it to crash and roll onto its side, KETV reported.
