Yale killer apologizes, gets 44 years

NEW HAVEN, Conn., June 3 (UPI) -- A former Yale Medical School technician was sentenced Friday to 44 years in prison for killing a pharmacology student and apologized to her family.

Raymond Clark received the penalty for Annie Le's murder, along with a concurrent 20-year sentence for attempted sexual assault, in New Haven, Conn. The terms were agreed when he pleaded guilty in March, the New Haven Independent reported.

Le's body was found in a Yale lab building Sept. 13, 2009, which was to be her wedding day. She disappeared five days earlier.

"I will never see all of Annie's dreams come true," her mother, Vivian Le, said in court. "Her future is gone; her life is gone. ... Our family has lost a beautiful soul."

Clark, speaking publicly for the first time, gave no motive or explanation.

"I'm sorry I lied," he said. "I'm sorry I ruined lives. And I'm truly, truly sorry I took Annie's life."

Clark, 26, cleaned mouse cages in the building where Le, 24, did experiments.
