PHOENIX, June 1 (UPI) -- A store known as the 'Walmart of Weed' opened in Phoenix Wednesday to serve Arizona's thousands of state-authorized medical marijuana users.

The weGrow Store doesn't stock any marijuana but it does sell everything necessary to grow the plant, CNN reported.

Spokeswoman Melissa DiGianfilippo said weGrow chose Wednesday to open its store in Arizona because it was to be the first day the state was scheduled to accept applications to run a marijuana dispensary.

However, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Attorney Gen. Tom Horne filed a federal lawsuit last week seeking a declaratory judgment on the legality of Arizona's Medical Marijuana Act.

U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke of Arizona warned state officials in a letter last month that "growing, distributing and possessing marijuana, in any capacity, other than as a federally authorized research program, is a violation of federal law regardless of state laws that purport to permit such activities."

Gov. Brewer has directed the Arizona Department of Health to put on hold its process for licensing marijuana dispensaries, pending court action on the issue, a spokesman told CNN Tuesday.

However, the agency will continue to provide registration cards for individuals who receive a doctor's recommendation to use medical marijuana.
