Woman arrested with remains of dead man

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., May 31 (UPI) -- Police in California say they are holding a woman found with a trash can that contained the partial remains of an unidentified man.

Carmen Montenegro, 51, of San Bernardino, Calif., was arrested on suspicion of murder after she was spotted wheeling a trash can with human remains inside it down a street in Ontario, Calif., the San Bernardino Sun reported.

Police believe the human remains came from the back yard of a home on the 700 block of North Holmes Avenue, Detective Jeff Crittenden said. Neighbors said at times Montenegro had lived at the home, which was owned by her mother, who lives there along with other relatives and tenants.

Crittenden said investigators were working to determine the identity of the deceased man, how he died and his relationship to Montenegro.
