WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., says hackers were responsible for sending a suggestive photo from his Twitter feed to a young woman.

Weiner, an outspoken liberal Democrat and likely candidate for mayor of New York in 2013, told Politico Saturday night it was "obvious" that someone took over his Twitter account and sent a link to a picture of a man's bulging underwear at the image-sharing site yfrog.

The photo, reported by the conservative biggovernment.com, is from the waist down and shows no face. The site said it was sent to a college student in Seattle. An earlier tweet noted when a Weiner TV interview would be broadcast there.

Weiner's office did not respond to a request for comment on whether he has reported to federal authorities the alleged cyber-attack, which could violate laws against impersonating federal officials.

"The weiner gags never get old, I guess," the congressman told Politico.
