GOP: Democrats on 'ideological offensive'

WASHINGTON, May 28 (UPI) -- Democrats are on an "ideological offensive" that's holding back job creation and economic growth, Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., said in a party address Saturday.

The House majority leader said the Republican-dominated House would continue trying to curtail efforts by President Barack Obama and the Democrat-controlled Senate to expand taxes and business regulations.

"We must fix the tax code and remove loopholes and giveaways to special interests," Cantor said in the party's weekly address. "We achieve that by reducing the overall tax rate to no more than 25 percent for businesses and individuals -- including small business owners. This makes the tax code simpler, flatter, and more fair."

Cantor said the Republican strategy was to "cut and grow," meaning cutting taxes and regulations while growing the economy with job creation and expanded production capabilities.

"This administration's regulators have gone on an ideological offensive against businesses that is costing our country billions of dollars and countless jobs," he said.
