NEW YORK, May 24 (UPI) -- Mitt Romney is the most popular Republican presidential candidate but has only 14-percent support, a new poll finds.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who dropped out as the survey was being taken, was second among likely GOP voters in the Harris poll released Monday at 12 percent while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had 10 percent.
No one else scored better than 8 percent and "undecided" led the whole pack at 23 percent.
Even more conservatives, 29 percent, were unsure and Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and Huckabee each held 12 percent. But among independents, Texas Rep. Ron Paul was first with 10 percent, followed by Romney at 9 percent.
Donald Trump, who has dropped out, topped the list of candidates Republicans said they would never vote for at 39 percent, followed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 30 percent and Paul at 22.
Among all voters, only former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who is not running, beat President Barack Obama, 51 to 49 percent. Romney did best among actual candidates, losing 49 to 51, followed by Huckabee losing 48 to 52.
The online poll of 2,184 adults was conducted May 9 through 16. Harris does not give margin-of-error figures.
