NEW YORK, May 20 (UPI) -- Sarah Palin says she feels moved to run for president but is concerned about the effect on her family.
In an interview with Fox News Thursday, the former Alaska governor said, "I do have the fire in my belly," while a potential Republican rival, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, passed on running because it "wasn't in his heart."
"I am so adamantly supportive of the good, traditional things about America. … I want to make sure America is put back on the right track and we will do that by defeating [President Barack] Obama in 2012. I have that fire in my belly," she said.
But she admitted "the huge amount of scrutiny and the sacrifices that have to be made on my children's part in order to see their mama run for president" gives her pause, the New York Daily News reported.
Palin asserted that only conservatives are "hammered away" by the media, but, "I feel like I have a prayer shield in front of me that deflects a lot of that."
"I just want to make sure that … my loved ones … have that tool to deflect also so that they're not adversely affected," she added.
