PRINCETON, N.H., May 17 (UPI) -- More than six in 10 Americans say high gas prices won't force them to spend their summer vacation at home this year, a Gallup poll revealed Tuesday.

The Gallup Organization said it found that a majority of those polled indicated it is very important to travel away from home regardless of higher gas costs.

The April 30-May 1 USA Today/Gallup Poll found that 29 percent of those asked said they would travel less this summer, about the same percentage as last year when gas prices were much lower.

Working Americans with the highest income were the most likely to say that taking a vacation was important, the poll revealed.

In terms of age, respondents 65 years of age and older rated vacations away from home less important than those younger than 65.

Results for the USA Today/Gallup poll were based on telephone interviews of a random sample of 1,109 adults 18 years and older living in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It carried a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
