MIAMI, May 7 (UPI) -- Two Miami men have been charged with killing a letter carrier simply to get his key, allowing them to steal mail for identity theft and tax fraud.
Saubnet Dwayne Politasse, 23, was arrested after a traffic stop Wednesday, The Miami Herald reported. He was pulled over after a police officer smelled marijuana coming from his car, and a search of his car turned up a postal master key hidden under the seat, police said.
Politasse allegedly admitted he had been involved in the killing of Bruce Parton, 60, who was gunned down in December as he delivered mail at a complex in Pembroke Pines. Pikerson J. Mentor, 29, was arrested early Thursday.
In an affidavit filed in federal court, investigators charged Mentor was the person who shot Parton. He allegedly took off in Parton's postal truck, abandoned it nearby and was picked up by Politasse.
Mentor denied being involved in the killing, investigators said. He said he had heard news broadcasts about it and, when asked what had been taken from Parton, responded "the key," something that had not been released to the news media.
The two men allegedly used the key to remove mail from boxes at the Monte Carlo Condominiums.
