RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., April 27 (UPI) -- A southeast Florida man out spear fishing with friends was bitten in the leg by a 12-foot bull shark, Riviera Beach, Fla., police said.
Anthony Segrich, 32, had shot a fish and was bringing it up when a shark tried to grab the fish and got Segrich's leg instead, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Wednesday.
Friends got Segrich out of the water and wrapped his leg in a tourniquet to stop the bleeding until help arrived.
He was conscious and responsive when transported to the hospital Tuesday, police spokeswoman Rose Anne Brown said.
Segrich was reported in stable condition Wednesday.
His friends said he suffered a large bite wound to the calf but doctors expected him to have full use of his leg once he recovers.
