Obama orders better customer service

WASHINGTON, April 27 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama signed an executive order Wednesday ordering U.S. government agencies to improve customer service.

Obama said the government took several important steps during the administration of President Bill Clinton to make dealing with agencies less onerous.

"However, with advances in technology and service delivery systems in other sectors, the public's expectations of the government have continued to rise," he said in the order. "The government must keep pace with and even exceed those expectations. Government must also address the need to improve its services, not only to individuals, but also to private and governmental entities to which the agency directly provides significant services."

Obama ordered all agencies, working with the Office of Management and Budget, to develop customer service plans within 180 days. They must also develop ways to get public feedback on their services.
