Federal agents turn to Facebook

DETROIT, April 25 (UPI) -- People under federal investigation in the United States may have friends on Facebook they do not know about -- agents from the FBI and other agencies.

Warrants allowing agents to access Facebook accounts are a growing trend, The Detroit News reported Monday. That can give investigators access to a lot of data, including cellphone numbers, e-mail addresses, photographs and Facebook friends who might be co-conspirators.

Anthony Wilson, 25, of Detroit, who had a Facebook page under the name Anthony Mrshowoff Wilson, was indicted on a charge of bank robbery last week. FBI agents say once Wilson became a suspect in a string of holdups they got a warrant for his Facebook page and found photos that showed him wearing outfits that also appeared in images captured by bank security cameras.

"To be honest with you, it bothers me," Wilson said. "Facebook could have let me know what was going on. Instead, I got my door kicked down, and all of a sudden I'm in handcuffs."
