Attack on transgender woman posted on Web

BALTIMORE, April 24 (UPI) -- A McDonald's employee who recorded an attack on a transgendered woman by two teenagers in a Baltimore-area restaurant was fired Saturday, the restaurant said.

The video, which shows the teens kicking and punching Chrissy Lee Polis, 22, while some bystanders tell them to stop and others encourage them, was posted to YouTube, which has since taken it down, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Polis was beaten Monday after she used the ladies room in the McDonald's in Rosedale. She told the Sun she is now afraid to appear in public and called the attack "definitely a hate crime."

"They said, 'That's a dude, that's a dude and she's in the female bathroom,'" she said. "They spit in my face."

The videotaping made the attack worse, she said. Knowing it was posted on the Web was like "walking out of the closet all over again."

Police said a 14-year-old girl faces juvenile charges and an 18-year-old woman has been charged as an adult in the attack.
