Nanny charged with abusing triplets

April 19, 2011 at 11:18 PM

FORT WORTH, Tenn., April 19 (UPI) -- A 65-year-old Texas woman has been charged with abusing infant triplets after their parents hired her as a nanny.

Carolyn Marie Easton of Watauga was arrested last week, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday. She was being held in lieu of $22,500.

A Fort Worth couple arranged in December to have Eaton care for their triplets so the mother could return to work. They installed a "nannycam" in March because relatives who sometimes stopped by during the day said Easton might not be spending enough time with the children.

The mother said what they saw when they checked the tapes was worse than they expected, that Easton was actively hurting the triplets, now 5 months old. She said Easton was physically abusive, hitting and swinging the babies.

"I cannot tell you how horrified we were," the mother said. "Literally, we just came home and were like 'Let's see how Carrie spent the day.' It was just appalling and heartbreaking to see our children go through what they did with her."

The newspaper did not report the parents' names.
