WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- First couple Barack and Michelle Obama reported an adjusted 2010 gross income of $1.73 million and paid $453,770 in federal tax, the White House said Monday.

"The vast majority of the family's income is the proceeds from the sale of the president's books," Carney wrote.

Obama is donating the after-tax proceeds from his children's book, "Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters," to a Fisher House scholarship fund for children of disabled or deceased soldiers, Carney said.

The Obamas also released their Illinois income tax return, reporting paying $51,568 in state income taxes.

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, also released their 2010 federal income tax returns and state returns for Delaware and Virginia. Carney blogged that the Bidens filed joint federal and Delaware income tax returns and Jill Biden filed a separate non-resident tax return for Virginia.
