Blue Bird recalls 3,900 buses

FORT VALLEY, Ga., April 8 (UPI) -- A Fort Valley, Ga., school bus manufacturer says it will recall about 3,900 large buses because of a potential fire hazard.

The Blue Bird Body Co. is recalling model year 2004 through 2006 Blue Bird Vision buses because a starter cable might rub against a power steering hose creating a short circuit and a fire, CNN reported Friday.

The problem was brought to light in December when customers found abrasions on the cables, Blue Bird said in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Blue Bird said it will alert bus owners to the problem to make sure they provide for enough space between the cable and the hose, but if there isn't enough space, Blue Bird says it will install a clamp to keep them apart and replace any damaged parts at their expense.

No one from Blue Bird was available for comment, CNN said.
