Televangelist testifies in murder case

WATERLOO, Ill., April 6 (UPI) -- Televangelist Joyce Meyer gave taped testimony to be used at the trial of a former security guard charged in Illinois with killing his family.

Dan Meyer, Joyce's son and chief executive officer of her ministry, also gave a deposition, the Belleville News Democrat reported. Meyer had agreed to testify for the prosecution at Chris Coleman's trial, which is scheduled to begin next week, but is to be at a conference on the day she was likely to be called.

Monroe County Judge Milton Wharton closed the depositions to the public and press.

Chris Coleman, 34, a former security guard for Joyce Meyer Ministries, is charged with killing his wife, Sheri, 31, and their sons, Garrett, 9, and Gavin, 11, in 2009 at their home in Columbia, Ill. He allegedly was having an affair and wanted to marry his mistress, a high-school friend of his wife.

Meyer told reporters after the deposition she answered questions "honestly and truthfully." Asked if she was praying for Coleman, she responded, "Certainly."
