DETROIT, April 6 (UPI) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was moved back to a Michigan state prison Wednesday after months in federal prison.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds agreed to the transfer and set bail at $100,000 on federal corruption charges, the Detroit Free Press reported. Kilpatrick is eligible for parole in July on a state probation violation.

Kilpatrick was originally transferred to a federal facility to allow him to prepare his defense.

The former mayor was cheerful in court, joking with family members, friends and reporters. He was dressed in khaki pants and shirt and appeared to have lost weight in prison.

When his aunt, Marsha Cheeks, called to him, "You look good," he responded, "It's muscle, all muscle."

Federal marshals transported Kilpatrick to a state prison in Jackson, where he will be evaluated for parole. His lawyer said he will join his wife in Texas if he is paroled.
