EDGEWATER, Colo., April 5 (UPI) -- Police in suburban Denver say 11 people have been arrested after almost 250 shots were fired at officers responding to a 911 call early Tuesday.
Two police officers in Edgewater on the west side of Denver responded to a report of shots fired and were pinned down behind a brick wall as gunfire erupted from one or possible two nearby houses, The Denver Post reported.
Shots were being fired in volleys of one to 11 bullets at a time. Edgewater police spokesman Steve Davis said.
A SWAT unit from Jefferson County was called in, Davis said.
Residents in the neighborhood said about 250 shots were fired over the course of about 45 minutes.
The gunfire finally ceased when a special assault team had power cut off in a three-block area and entered two homes, arresting 11 people.
"We believe we have the shooter," Davis said.
"There may be a possible second shooter in that group."
Three infants were inside one of the homes at the time of the gunfire and were taken into protective custody, he said.
