Boy accused of killing great-grandparents

HUGO, Colo., April 1 (UPI) -- A 16-year-old Colorado boy is suspected of shooting his great-grandparents to death as they lay in bed, authorities said.

Police said Laura Clagett, 82, and Chuck Clagett, 80, had been dead about two days when their bodies were found Wednesday in their farmhouse near Hugo, The Denver Post reported.

Their great-grandson was under armed guard at a Denver hospital where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries, the newspaper said. He had not yet been charged but is the only suspect, police said.

The Clagetts had taken in the boy and his mother, Teresa Ann Rose, several years ago and took custody of him when he became too much for her to handle, the newspaper reported.

The teen was involved in a traffic accident and was taken into custody after police found the elderly couple dead. A large amount of money was fond in the pickup truck the boy was driving.
