KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 31 (UPI) -- The wife of a Missouri man charged with holding a young woman as a sex slave has been charged with grooming the victim for her role, federal prosecutors say.
Marilyn Bagley, 45, was released Wednesday after a brief court appearance, The Kansas City Star reported. She faces charges that include conspiracy and trafficking for sex and forced labor.
Edward Bagley, Marilyn's husband, and four other men were charged in September in the case. Prosecutors said Bagley lured the young woman with promises of a show business career and then enslaved and tortured her.
Another suspect, Bradley Cook of St. Louis, who was already charged with participating in the conspiracy is now charged with planning to have the victim killed and with trying to intimidate another witness, warning her against talking to the FBI.
Investigators say Marilyn Bagley helped recruit the young woman and then tortured her sexually, using electric shocks from a windup telephone. The woman was allegedly held in the trailer the Bagleys occupied near Lebanon, Mo.
Two of the five men who were charged have entered guilty pleas.
