TAMPA, Fla., March 31 (UPI) -- Severe weather in Florida Thursday trapped about 70 people in a collapsed tent at an airport and spawned an apparent tornado in Tampa, meteorologists said.
High winds collapsed a tent at the Sun 'n' Fun Aviation Fair at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, CNN reported, while an apparent tornado touched down in Hillsborough County as a tornado warning from the National Weather Service was in effect.
Officials said emergency crews were able to free the people who were trapped at the airport, including seven people who had minor injuries, ABC News reported.
Meanwhile, NASA's space shuttle Endeavor took a beating Wednesday when thunderstorms with high winds and hail tore through the Kennedy Space Center, accuweather.com reported.
An 85-mph wind gust was reported from a 54-foot tower at the space center.
NASA said crews would perform a full survey of Endeavour to inspect for any damage.
