NEW YORK, March 31 (UPI) -- Police found the body of an elderly New York woman in a closet after relatives checking on her welfare found her grandson having sex in her bed.
The grandson, Larry Davis, ran from his grandmother's apartment in a Harlem housing project after family members arrived Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported. They called police, who found the body of Cora Davis, 76, in a bedroom closet.
The body was concealed under clothing, police said. Sources told the newspaper preliminary findings by a medical examiner suggest Cora Davis was strangled.
Larry Davis had a history of arrests and convictions. There was an open warrant for his arrest because he failed to appear in court on a trespassing charge, police said.
A neighbor, Dorothea Sadler, said she and Cora Davis had lived in the building at the Wagner Houses for more than four decades.
"It's just a horrible thing because she was a lovely lady," Sadler told the News. "She didn't bother anybody."
Police were searching for Larry Davis Thursday.
