WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 23 (UPI) -- Two suspects were in custody and police were looking for a third in a break-in at a Utah home where two children were on their own with no adults around.

Police said the break-in occurred in West Valley City around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, while the mother of the two girls -- ages 8 and 15 -- was at a store, KLS-TV, Salt Lake City, reported. The mother, whose name was not reported, told police one of her daughters called her when there was a knock on the door, saying she thought it might be a friend of the mom's.

The woman said she came right home and found one of the intruders, a woman, holding one of her daughters at gunpoint. The mother said the woman beat her with the gun but did not injure either of the children.

She said the girls' grandmother, who lives nearby, watched the children while she followed a vehicle in which the intruders drove away.

Police in Taylorsville, responding to a call from the mother, said they stopped the vehicle but three occupants ran from officers. A man and a woman were arrested but one man escaped, the report said.
