School bus hits 2nd bus in N.Y.; 10 hurt

VICTOR, N.Y., March 21 (UPI) -- One school bus hit another Monday in a New York accident that injured nine children and one adult, authorities said. The buses were carrying about 60 children.

None of the injuries seemed life-threatening, Ontario County Undersheriff David Tillman told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

Tillman said a Victor, N.Y., school bus stopped to pick up students around 9 a.m., its stop sign and warning lights activated. A car driving in the opposite direction had stopped to wait.

A second school bus came from behind the stopped bus and tried to pass it, but it struck the bus, then hit the car and went a short distance before jumping a curb and stopping in a front yard, Tillman said.

It was not known why the driver of the second bus did not stop.

Seven children on the buses and two who were being picked up were taken to hospitals, as was the driver of the first bus.

The driver of the second bus had to be removed by emergency responders because her foot got stuck, neighbor Fran Snavely said.
