2 officers killed, 2 shot in rural Va.

GRUNDY, Va., March 13 (UPI) -- Two police officers were killed and two others shot Sunday by an armed suspect who was killed outside Grundy, Va., officials said.

The four officers were shot with a rifle about 3 p.m. in the Devils Branch area by the same man shooting from the mountains, WCYB-TV in Bristol, Va., reported.

Virginia State Police searched for the suspect near the intersection of State Routes 83 and 620, and the suspect was killed, WCYB said.

Buchanan County 911 dispatchers called for helicopters to airlift the injured officers while police hunted the suspect, WVVA-TV in Bluefield, W.Va., reported.
