Chicago mayor feels Cutler's pain

  |   March 5, 2011 at 2:41 PM
CHICAGO, March 5 (UPI) -- Outgoing Chicago Mayor Richard Daley had some advice about advice for his successor and sympathy for embattled Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

Daley spoke this week at Wheaton College where he discussed his 22 years in office and advised mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel to "never give anyone advice unless they ask for it."

The Chicago Tribune said Saturday Daley's address to the student body stressed the importance of future public-policy leaders to focus on bipartisan solutions and a continuous courtship of overseas companies that will bring in jobs and investments.

Daley also conceded he had often been in the firing line of public opinion, just as Cutler was after the beloved Bears' loss to Green Bay in the NFC championship game.

"I get beaten up just like Jay, so I understand what he is going through," Daley laughed.
