HARLIGEN, Texas, March 3 (UPI) -- Police say a South Texas man used his 8-year-old stepson as a lookout in an alleged home break-in in La Feria.

Fabian Losoya and Ernesto Alanis face burglary charges after Monday's home burglary, the Harligen (Texas) Valley Morning Star reported.

Investigators said Losoya took his pregnant common-law wife and two stepchildren, one 8 years old and the other 6 months old, to the alleged crime.

Authorities allege the woman and infant remained in the car, while the older boy was used as a lookout and the two men entered the home.

Police said when they responded to the scene, the boy was running around outside the home, screaming, "Dad, the cops are here."

Police said the woman wouldn't be charged with any crimes because Losoya allegedly told her he had permission to be on the property.

In addition to the burglary charge, Losoya faces two counts of endangering a child under the age of 15.
