Mom allegedly mixed daycare, meth lab

MORGANTON, N.C., March 3 (UPI) -- A North Carolina woman's home doubled as a daycare center and methamphetamine lab, investigators say.

A Burke County narcotics unit raided the house in Morganton Tuesday night, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported. Katrina Epperson and Christopher Webb, who lives with her, were arrested.

Epperson and Webb came to the attention of narcotics investigators because they bought pseudoephedrine, a chemical used in meth manufacture, police said.

Sgt. Rick Hasson said Epperson's alleged combination of businesses is unusual.

"It's not good at all," Hasson told WCNC-TV, Charlotte. "This is the first time I've seen it in a daycare. Hopefully, it's the last case I'll see including a daycare."

Epperson's four children are being cared for by the county Department of Social Services, Hasson said. Investigators said they were trying to determine whether if meth was being made during the hours the daycare center was open.
