NEW YORK, March 3 (UPI) -- A New Jersey factory worker was able to board a plane bound for the Dominican Republic with three box cutters in his carryon bag, authorities say.
Eusebio D. Peraltalajara of Jersey City has not been charged with anything, the New York Post reported, citing sources. He told police at Kennedy International Airport he uses the tools at work and had forgotten they were in his bag when he boarded the plane Saturday night.
Security screeners did not detect the cutters. A flight attendant discovered them when they fell out as Peraltalajara was putting his carryon in the overhead bin.
The plane was emptied, swept for bombs and passengers had to go through another security screening.
The Transportation Security Authority said two screeners and a supervisor would be disciplined and given retraining.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police were furious about the incident.
"In case anyone has forgotten, the TSA was created because of a couple box cutter incidents," one told the Post, referring to the weapons used by the hijackers on Sept. 11, 2001.
