Nine boys in Tacoma fight club suspended

TACOMA, Wash., March 2 (UPI) -- Nine sixth-graders in a fight club have been suspended from a Tacoma, Wash., middle school, the district says.

Peter King Jr., one of the students suspended Monday, told KOMO-TV, Seattle, about 25 boys took part in the organized brawls at Stewart Middle School.

Many of the fights, which took place after school in a boys' bathroom, were recorded on cellphones.

"No one said they didn't want to do it. No one was forced into it," Peter said. "The closest I've seen someone get hurt is a bloody lip."

Peter King Sr., the boy's father, said principals and teachers should have known about the fights and should be punished as well.

The district said teachers will increase patrols of the grounds, and the bathroom will be locked at the end of the school day.

The length of the students' suspensions will depend on their disciplinary history.
