Wife killer refuses to come to court

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- A New York state man convicted of beheading his wife refused to appear for a hearing on charges he assaulted a sheriff's deputy.

When Muzzammil "Mo" Hassan refused to participate in a video conference from the Erie County Holding Center, Buffalo City Judge E. Jeannette Ogden rescheduled it to March 14, The Buffalo News reported. She warned he must appear for that one or she will order him dragged in to court.

Since the guilty verdict Feb. 7, Hassan has also refused to appear for a child-support hearing. A family court judge issued a default judgment.

Hassan is scheduled to be sentenced March 9 for murdering his wife Aasiya, who was stabbed in their home television studio in Orchard Park.

In the municipal court case, Hassan is charged with assaulting a deputy in the holding center in November. He contends guards harassed and assaulted him.

During preliminary hearings and his trial in the murder case, Hassan refused to appear on several occasions or tried to leave the courtroom.
