PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Facebook began launching a redesign of Facebook Pages Friday that company officials said will bring them closer to user profiles.

The redesign was briefly revealed by accident in December but soon taken down, Mashable.com reported.

The change removes tabs and lets page administrators post and comment on other Facebook Pages via a "Login as Page" function.

Rohit Dhawan, the lead product manager for Facebook Pages, said the company has wanted to redesign Facebook Pages ever since it launched the profile redesign in the interests of consistency.

The left-hand menu for editing pages has been replaced with a navigation menu and the left-side information box is gone.

The right-hand menu will show users how many of their friends have also "liked" the page.

Like profiles, a page will be able to feature photos at the top.

The "Login as Page" feature lets administrators interact with the rest of Facebook as a page, not an individual.
