JACKSON, Mo., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Gov. Jay Nixon has denied clemency for a man scheduled for execution in Missouri for the 1991 murder of an 11-year-old girl.

Nixon Monday refused Martin Link, 47, clemency for the murder of Elissa Self, the Southeast Missourian reported.

Link is set to die by lethal injection Wednesday in Bonne Terre, the Cape Girardeau newspaper reported.

The Interfaith South East Moratorium on Executions, a Missouri group that advocates bans on executions, planned a candlelight vigil Tuesday at the courthouse in Jackson, the newspaper said.

Self vanished while walking to her bus stop in January 1991. Her body was discovered four days later on the bank of the St. Francis River.
