ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A man accused of leaving his 7-month-old son unattended in a car outside a casino in western New York had several explanations, officials said.

Clint R. Vanepps of Greece, N.Y., has been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child for leaving his son in an unheated car for about an hour, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported.

The baby was "distressed," but otherwise uninjured when discovered and rescued from the car by officials at the Finger Lakes Gaming Casino Monday, authorities said.

Vanepps, 24, told investigators he "just came in to look for my ID and credit card."

Then he said reportedly said, "I know they don't let kids in," and "I was only in here about 15 or 20 minutes."

"I started it (the car) with a car starter," Vanepps told investigators, before saying "I guess I lost track of time," and "I put in $5 dollars for a scratch-off."

Officials at the Ontario County sheriff's office said the baby's mother and grandmother took the boy home.
