Ex-Michigan governor to teach at Berkeley

LANSING, Mich., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Monday she will teach at Berkeley and contribute to NBC's "Meet the Press."

Granholm and husband Dan Mulhern have taken a joint two-year appointment at the University of California and will teach at the Goldman School of Public Policy this spring, she told Politico.com in an interview. They also will teach separate courses in the schools of law and business.

The family, with a son in middle school, will continue to live in Michigan, she said.

Granholm, a Democrat, left office Jan. 1, succeeded by Republican Rick Snyder.

She ended her eight-year tenure unpopular after presiding over Michigan's worst economy in decades but said her efforts to diversify it brought unemployment down from a peak of 14.7 percent to 11.7 percent in December.

The couple also are writing a book about her term which is to be published in September by Public Affairs.

Granholm said she was not approached for a job in the Obama administration and will not run for office again.

"I'm done with that," she said. "I'm ready for a new thing."
