Man who killed at 11 cited in jail attack

IONIA, Mich., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A Michigan man who was prosecuted as an adult for murder at age 11 is now charged with assaulting prison guards.

Nathaniel Abraham, now 25, shot Ronnie Greene, 18, in Pontiac, Mich., in 1997, in what police called a random shooting. He was convicted as an adult of second-degree murder in 1999, but the judge sentenced him as a juvenile. He was freed in January 2007 on his 21st birthday.

In 2008, he was arrested for possessing ecstasy with intent to distribute and was convicted. Abraham is now serving a four- to 20-year sentence at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia, Mich., the Detroit Free Press reports.

He faces a Jan. 24 exam on charges he assaulted two guards Nov. 21. If convicted, he could spend several more years behind bars.

Abraham's former attorney, Daniel Bagdade, visited him Monday and told the Free Press Abraham was depressed and frightened after being denied a visit by his girlfriend. He said the guards, unprovoked, attacked him as he sat in an isolation room. The Michigan Department of Corrections declined comment.
