Mudslides create havoc in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Mudslides caused by wind and rain shut down a number of roads in northern Oregon Monday, authorities said.

On one highway outside Tillamook a massive slide took down about 1,000 cubic yards of material, The (Portland) Oregonian reported.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said another mudslide along Interstate 26, the Mt. Hood Highway, closed off all lanes near Frog Lake.

Interstate 20, west of Vale was closed due to storm water 2 feet high on the roadway.

The ODOT was working to direct traffic around a sinkhole that developed, measuring 4 feet by 20 feet and 4 inches deep, the newspaper reported.
