3 in custody after standoff in Denver

DENVER, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A standoff in a home across the street from a Denver elementary school Monday ended with three men in custody, police said.

The Denver Post reported members of a police SWAT team, wearing gas masks and armed with rifles, entered the home about 12:30 p.m. MST while other personnel waited outside in two armored vehicles. The standoff situation ended without further incident, police said.

City police spokesman John White said authorities were looking for a sexual assault suspect. It wasn't clear whether the suspect was among those in custody.

KMGH-TV, Denver, reported the incident had started about 10:30 a.m. when the SWAT team was deployed and police blocked off several streets in the vicinity. Bryant-Webster Elementary School was placed on security lockdown for nearly 3 hours, Denver schools spokeswoman Kristy Armstrong told the TV station.
