O'Donnell campaign pledges form review

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell's campaign pledged to review its books and resubmit financial reports with the Federal Election Commission.

O'Donnell's campaign attorney said in a letter released Wednesday the campaign "hopefully" would file amended financial reports by Jan. 31, the next deadline, The Washington Post reported.

The letter follows recent allegations by two former staffers accusing the Delaware Republican of using campaign funds to pay rent and other personal expenses. A Washington ethics watchdog filed a complaint with the FEC, asking for an investigation into the matter, and law enforcement officials said the U.S. attorney in Delaware was looking into the case.

O'Donnell, a Tea Party movement-backed candidate who burst onto the political scene with an upset win in Delaware's Republican primary, said in a statement the federal inquiry was "simply an establishment trick to stop the anti-establishment Tea Party movement in its tracks. … Heck, the presidency is at stake in 2012."

Despite the investigations into her finances, O'Donnell signed a book deal and shown a desire to stay in politics, including establishing a political action committee to encourage non-traditional candidates.
